Sailor Moon was a show ahead of its time. It was released in 1992, so there are a lot of tropes it could have fallen into but luckily did not. No male interests came to save the young heroines from the villains (okay, Tuxedo Mask, maybe, but they didn't need him, he just helped out here and there). There were not many shows at this time depicting 5 strong female protagonists, so it's pretty refreshing looking back at this series. Each Sailor had their own personality and was given their time to shine.
